An MBA may enhance your career.
An MBA may enhance your career.

I have a Master’s degree, not and MBA, but I think advanced education is important for anyone who wishes to call themselves a professional You may be considering  your options of going back to school. You’re steadily trying to climb the corporate ladder but feel you’re not being seen. Most of the new managers coming in have an MBA but don’t know much about the company like you do.
Getting an MBA will help your employer for a number of reasons. It strategically gives them leverage as your capabilities will increase. It also gives them an opportunity to promote from within. Employers love it when they don’t have to retrain employees on culture and processes.

Plan

First, make a plan. If you’re serious about advancing your career, it should be a process. List what you need to do and have your strategy, goals and benchmarks on paper so you can visualize them, share them more clearly and keep track of where you are when you get going.

Research

Research your options. Find schools that offer flexibility and won’t affect your schedule too much. The Alliant University San Diego MBA program has a variety of options to fit your needs and help take you to the next level. Know which programs and educational incentives are in place at your company that can assist with your financial expenses.
With proper planning and research, you can make a strong case to your employer. Know why you’re advancing your education and determine whether or not you will be fully dedicated to this goal.

Draft a proposal.

Make sure your supervisor is on board with your aspirations. Good managers embrace employees that want to make a positive contribution to their organization. More often than not, they will take the time to assist you in making that goal happen. Your proposal should outline any schedule changes that may need to take place, why you want to pursue an MBA and how getting this advanced degree will contribute to the bottom line at your organization.
Great companies know how important retention of good employees is, and they have educational incentives in place to groom their future leadership. If you find that your immediate supervisor is not one that encourages employees to think ahead, find a mentor within the company that can help you.
Although these strategies are mainly for you to get your plan in place, they also demonstrate you are mentally prepared for advancement, which is the number one incentive for your employer. Once you’ve made the final decision to go back to school and get your MBA, you’ve made your first official executive decision. Now, you’re thinking like a leader. Continue to plan and execute your strategy.
