Future Friday: Preserving your best employee

It has been possible to bring a goat back from extinction..perhaps you can preserve your best employees in the future?
It has been possible to bring a goat back from extinction..perhaps you can preserve your best employees in the future?

This is just a quick thought for the day. We all have employees who do great jobs. Many times we have said we would like to have many more of them. In fact we have even used the term “cloning.” Well what if you could preserve your best employee?
De-extinction
There is a new science underway called “de-extinction”. It is the effort of a scientist named Stewart Brand to resurrect extinct species and make them live again. He is taking the DNA of extinct animals and trying to bring them back to life. His first effort was with a goat species that went extinct a dozen years ago. That DNA was implanted in the egg of an existing goat species resulting in a live birth. The young goat only lasted 10 minutes. But as Brand pointed out many efforts started off with minimum results.
Your best employee
At some point in the future it might be possible to recreate your best employee. Of course this is the stuff that science fiction is famous for. Judge Dredd, the movie Soldier,  and many more are all about creating better “workers” fast. Naturally there are just a few ethical and moral issues that would have to be settled before that would happen. But I ask you, if you could would you?
Just food for thought.

  1. This talk of “cloning” your best employee is common in my world, and a topic that keenly interests me.
I’m interested in the input from your other readers:
*What do you do–right now–to clone your best-of-the-best?
Just like Brand and his “minimum results,” what small improvements are you seeing, and how did you create them?
